The A537, also known as the Cat and Fiddle Road, runs between Macclesfield and Buxton and has been labelled the most dangerous road in Britain. It’s notoriety stems from the amount of deaths on the road, due to its frequent twisty turns and sharp bends which makes it irresistible to bikers.

The A537 is built upon the moorlands and at the summit, between Macclesfield and Buxton, is a pub called The Cat and Fiddle Inn (hence the name of the road). The pub is situated 1690 feet above sea level and is the second highest public house in Britain. Many bikers ride the route and stop off at the pub for a drink and food. The pub embraces the biker community.

The most exhilirating ride is between Macclesfield and the Inn, riding uphill with plenty of sharp bends whilst the road between the Inn and Buxton is much more straight and flat with fewer bends. The speed limit along the A537 is 50mph with speed cameras and police enforcing the speed restriction.
I first visited this road around April 2010 and it’s certainly an exciting ride but be aware that it is a public road and there are other vehicles on it. There are many blind corners where you have to extra careful.
